Oliver Kohlbacher is professor for Applied Bioinformatics at the University of Tübingen, director of the institute for Translational Bioinformatics at the University Hospital Tübingen, and director of the Institute for Bioinformatics and Medical Informatics at University of Tübingen.

His research focuses on methods for the analysis of large-scale omics data (genomics, epigenomics, proteomics, metabolomics). He is co-director of GHGA (German Human Genome-Phenome Archive) and also coordinates one of the service centers within de.NBI/ELIXIR-DE and is a member of the Steering Committee of the German national medical informatics initiative.

In 2023, Oliver Kohlbacher was elected a Fellow of the International Society for
Computational Biology (ISCB)
